Add a child

You can add a child from the School Places, Funded Early Years and 30 Hour Entitlement pages, without having to navigate back to the main Citizen Portal menu and access My Family. The pages may be slightly different to the equivalent page in My Family, depending on the requirements for each area.

  1. Click the Add Child button to display the Add Child page.
    Click for details:
  2. Enter the child’s details. All fields except Middle Name are mandatory.

For Welsh users Languages fields are now populated with Null values instead of NOT/NKN where values are not asked from the applicant.

  3. Enter the child’s address:
    • If the child’s address is listed in the Select Address section, click on that address to select it.
    • If the child’s address is not listed:
      1. Click the Click to add new address button to display the Find Address Postcode field.
      2. Enter the full postcode of the child’s address and then click the Search button to display a list of addresses with that postcode.
Only addresses marked as Active will be displayed in the list. If the postcode of an inactive address is entered in the search, a message stating No results will be displayed.
      3. Select the correct address from the list. Alternatively, click the Not able to find your address? button and enter the child’s address details manually.
  4. Click the Add Child button to add the child.

If an address used on an application or a child's/carer's personal information is marked as inactive in v4 online | Administration | System Administration | Address Management | Manage Addresses, the address will still be displayed.

The maximum number of characters for a child’s forename is 15, for a midname it is 25 and for a surname it is 30. If you exceed these levels, a message is displayed asking you to contact your local authority if you need to enter a name that is longer than the field allows.
